Daily Live out God's Word

Discipleship is a lifelong process that includes both inward transformation and living out the Word in ourselves, but also showing others how to do the same. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 1:11: “Follow me, as I follow Christ. Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.”

How discipleship is done can vary from person to person or group to group.  One important thing to consider is what is core to bring the individual long-lasting transformation in someone’s personal relationship with Christ?  Consideration of context, culture, one’s faith journey, etc., all may influence the approach and structure of a discipleship relationship.

When you look at The Great Commission in Matthew 28, the commands are to go, baptize, and teach. Teach them to do what?   Teach them to obey, or to carry out what the Scripture says. How do you do that?  Teaching them takes intentional discipleship, looking at what the Word says and how to live it out.

House to House often uses the Discovery Bible Study method, and in that includes a group discussion about how the Holy Spirit is prompting them to live out, or obey, the Scripture being studied.   Each person has an opportunity to share what that looks like in their own life.  It could be sharing it with someone, a changed mindset, walking towards forgiveness or reconciliation, or carrying out a certain action.  We pray that the Holy Spirit stirs each person’s heart to desire to act out what is being heard, that leads them to be more like Christ.   This journey together in fellowship encourages us all to be pressed in the Word daily, listen to the Holy Spirit’s voice and leading, live it out in obedience, and encourage those around us in our community with the Spirit of Truth within us.

Jesus says in Luke 9 that if we want to be a disciple of Christ, we must deny ourselves and take up our cross every day, and follow Him.   This is not just a mere suggestion, but a requirement to follow Jesus.   It’s a daily dying of self, taking up our cross, and following Him.   And what a beautiful thing it is, knowing God has given us the body of Christ to walk in discipleship relationship with and seek God together.

I pray we can all walk together in confidence in Christ, and faith to live out His Word in our own lives every day.  As the body of Christ, we will see Kingdom transformation in our own family, community, and churches.
